Flora Plateelbakkerij created this hand-painted vase in Gouda, the Netherlands. This famous studio became known for its transition from traditional floral patterns to bold, modernist designs. During the 1950s and 1960s, the makers focused on abstract decors that captured the optimistic energy of the era. Therefore, this vase reflects the true spirit of Dutch Mid-Century Modern design. Many people love Flora ceramics for their matte finishes and rhythmic, painterly lines.

This vase features the iconic “Linda” decor, characterized by its flowing, organic shapes. The soft matte blue base contrasts beautifully with the vibrant accents of ochre, orange, and green. These hand-painted elements are outlined in sharp black, giving the pattern a graphic, almost “atomic” appearance. Because each piece was painted by hand, the brushstrokes reveal the unique touch of the artist.

The proportions of model 1885 feel elegant and balanced. Additionally, the flared rim and footed base give it a classic yet architectural silhouette. You can use it for a simple bouquet in your home. However, it also works well as a sculptural statement piece on a sideboard or shelving unit. It fits perfectly in a minimalist or retro interior.

History for Collectors
Flora Gouda is an essential name in the history of Dutch pottery. While many factories produced mass-market items, Flora’s mid-century “matte” series became collectible for its artistic quality. The “Linda” decor is particularly sought after because it represents the peak of the Dutch modernist movement in ceramics.
