This striking wooden tray is a vibrant example of hand-painted folk art. Likely originating from South America, where macaws are being celebrated as a symbol of the tropics. Unlike mass-produced printed items, each stroke on this piece tells a story of manual craftsmanship. The artist has utilized a bold, saturated palette of forest green, crimson, and golden yellow to create a high-contrast scene that instantly draws the eye. The “naive” yet detailed style of the parrots reflects a tradition of functional art, where everyday household objects are transformed into canvases for nature-inspired storytelling.

Detailed Features

The tray features a mirrored composition of two majestic Red Macaws (Ara) perched among dense palm fronds. The background is composed of deep green textural strokes that mimic the layered depth of a jungle canopy. To add movement, the artist included delicate yellow fern-like accents that “pop” against the darker tones. The craftsmanship extends to the raised edges, which are decorated with a rhythmic green and black striped pattern, and integrated handles that follow an elegant, ergonomic curve. The underside reveals the natural grain of the wood, darkened to a charcoal finish, showing the authentic wear of a vintage piece.

Styling and Utility

Measuring approximately 44.5 cm in length, this tray is as functional as it is decorative. Its sturdy construction and high sides make it ideal for serving drinks on a patio or acting as a “statement base” for a coffee table display. Because of its intense colors, it pairs beautifully with brass accessories, rattan furniture, or a minimalist modern setting that needs a splash of character. Whether used for hosting or displayed upright as a piece of wall art, it brings an immediate sense of “tropical maximalism” to any room.
