This exquisite handcrafted vase is a quintessential example of Bohemian lead crystal, originating from the historic glassmaking regions of the Czech Republic. Since the late 19th century, Bohemia has been the global epicenter for high-end glasswork, where master cutters refined the art of deep-relief carving to transform heavy crystal into light-refracting masterpieces. This specific piece, featuring the iconic “Pinwheel” motif serves as a brilliant testament to the European tradition of cutting art, making it a luminous addition for collectors of authentic glassware.

The Crystal vase is defined by its substantial, high-clarity construction. The exterior is a masterclass in geometric storytelling, dominated by the Pinwheel (whirlpool) motif—a series of sweeping, curved cuts that create a sense of perpetual motion. At the heart of each pinwheel lies a meticulously carved “Star of David” hobstar, surrounded by intricate diamond-cut cross-hatchings. The neck is elegantly elongated with vertical fluting, leading to a dramatic scalloped “sawtooth” rim. When placed in natural light, these deep incisions act as prisms, scattering a spectrum of colors across the room.

Standing at 26 cm in height, this vase is perfectly scaled to serve as a dramatic centerpiece. Its generous proportions and tapered neck provide the ideal structural support for substantial floral arrangements, from long-stemmed lilies to seasonal branches, while its brilliant clarity allows it to stand alone as a sculptural object on a sunlit windowsill or a Mid-Century sideboard. Its heavy, stable base ensures it remains secure even when holding larger bouquets. To preserve the sharp edges of the hand-cut patterns and the brilliance of the lead crystal, hand-washing in lukewarm water with a splash of vinegar is recommended.
