Bjørn Wiinblad created this iconic “Sommer” (Summer) wall plate for Nymølle (Nymolle) Keramik during the mid-20th century. This famous Danish designer became known for his whimsical, romantic, and highly detailed illustrations that bridged the gap between traditional folk art and modern mid-century design. During this era, Wiinblad’s work shifted from simple pottery to intricate, storytelling pieces that captured the imagination of collectors worldwide. Therefore, this plate reflects the peak of the Danish “faience” tradition with its characteristic black-and-white copperplate graphics. Many collectors love Wiinblad’s designs for their ability to transform a simple household object into a narrative piece of art.

This plate features the sought-after “Sommer” motif from the “The Seasons” (Aarstiderne) series, offering a poetic and nostalgic look at a garden in full bloom. The fine black lines contrast beautifully with the creamy white ceramic background, highlighting the lady watering her flowers under a stylized sun. These organic, swirling patterns give the piece a dreamlike, decorative appearance that feels both vintage and timeless. Because of the integrated hanging holes on the back, the plate can be easily mounted, allowing it to serve as a focal point on a gallery wall while maintaining its classic circular silhouette.

The proportions of this model feel balanced and delicate, measuring approximately 15 cm in diameter. Additionally, the flat profile ensures it sits flush against the wall, keeping a subtle footprint in your interior. You can use it as a standalone piece in a cozy kitchen or a creative studio. However, it also works beautifully as part of a complete “Four Seasons” set displayed on a sideboard.
