This Globo Lighting “Pollux” table lamp is a quintessential example of “Space Age” revival design, drawing heavy inspiration from the iconic 1970s string art lamps by Paul Secon. During the mid-to-late 20th century, the use of industrial materials like acrylic and nylon became a hallmark of futuristic home decor. Globo Lighting, an Austrian firm known for blending contemporary trends with classic silhouettes, created the Pollux series to recapture this architectural magic. Consequently, this lamp serves as a bridge between retro-futurism and modern minimalism, making it a highly sought-after piece for collectors of 20th-century design styles.

The lamp is defined by its intricate “tension-wire” construction, where fine white threads are hand-threaded through transparent acrylic ribs to create a double-hyperbola shape. This geometric arrangement produces a stunning Moiré effect, where the overlapping lines appear to shimmer and shift as you move around the room. When illuminated, the central bulb transforms the shade into a glowing core, projecting sharp, linear shadows across nearby walls. The polished chrome base and stem provide a sleek, reflective contrast to the delicate, airy nature of the string shade, ensuring the piece looks as much like a sculpture as it does a light source.

With a 18 cm diameter, this model is perfectly scaled for intimate spaces, such as a bedside table, a narrow bookshelf, or a minimalist desk setup. Its vertical orientation allows it to provide accent lighting without occupying a large footprint. To achieve the best visual result, it is recommended to use a clear LED filament bulb, which enhances the crispness of the shadows and keeps the delicate strings cool. Whether this lamp is placed in a mid-century modern interior or a contemporary industrial loft, this lamp adds a layer of sophisticated texture and light play to the environment.
