The Polaroid Miniportrait Model 401 is a specialized piece of professional photographic history. Unlike consumer models, this unit was engineered by the renowned Dutch company Cambo B.V. specifically for Polaroid. It features a unique quad-lens system designed for the high-volume production of passport and identification photos. By using four lenses, it allowed photographers to capture four identical instant images on a single sheet of pack film. Its “Made in Holland” label ensures industrial durability, making it a standout for both photographers and vintage technology collectors.

Technical Performance & Condition

This unit is in working order. It was recently found with a pack of vintage film inside. While the film itself had expired, the process of extracting the shots confirmed that the internal mechanism and pulling rollers function perfectly. The shutter fires accurately, and the modular back detaches smoothly. The four lenses are clear, and the distinctive “pistol grip” with the cable release is responsive. Physically, it shows light authentic wear that adds to its industrial character without affecting use.

Aesthetic & Display Appeal

The Model 401 is a sculptural giant. Its imposing black frame and four-eye lens array make it an incredible conversation piece. Measuring 21.5 cm in height and 28.5 cm in width, it has a commanding presence. Whether displayed in a creative studio or as part of a curated camera collection, its “form-follows-function” design captures the essence of 20th-century analog innovation.
