The Soul of HERLIV: Why Every Object Deserves a New Life

The Soul of HERLIV: Why Every Object Deserves a New Life

In a world dominated by mass production and “fast furniture,” there is a power in things that have already lived. Welcome to the first chapter of the HERLIV story. A space where we don’t just sell antiques. We tell stories and preserve legacies.

What’s in a Name?

The name HERLIV is the heartbeat of our mission. It represents the intersection of two worlds:

  • HER: From the Dutch hergebruiken (to reuse).
  • LIV: From the English live, representing the life within each piece.

Together, they form our core belief: to give objects a new life. We believe that an item shouldn’t be discarded just because its era has passed. Instead, its history, character, and soul should be reimagined for the spaces we live in today.

Curating with Soul

When I founded HERLIV, I wanted to move away from the “generic.” My goal is to find pieces that “speak”—objects that have texture, weight, and a narrative.

Whether it is the raw energy of a Brutalist ceramic monolith or the intricate, hand-painted 19th-century Qajar flask. Every item in our collection is hand-selected. I look for pieces that speak to me. Whether they were crafted with high artistic intention or emerged as simple, soulful objects of everyday life. It is this, that ultimately gives a home its character.

Why Re-using Matters Today

Choosing to reuse is more than a preference, it is a conscious decision to honor the objects of the past. By bringing these pieces into your space, you are:

  • Valuing Materials: You are choosing the quality of solid wood, hand-thrown clay, and mouth-blown glass. These Materials were meant to last for generations, unlike the alternatives of today.
  • Preserving Craftsmanship: You are honoring techniques and hand-applied details that are often lost in the speed of modern manufacturing. These objects carry the human touch across decades.
  • Creating Originality: You are ensuring your space tells a personal story, not a catalog’s story. By reusing what already exists, you create an interior that is impossible to replicate.
  • Choosing Sustainability: You are reducing the demand for new production by recognizing the value in the beautiful resources we already have today.

Join the Journey

HERLIV is more than a shop. It’s a continuation of stories. Each time a piece leaves our collection to join yours, its story begins a new chapter. I invite you to explore our current collection and find the piece that speaks to you. Let’s preserve the past and HERLIV the future, one object at a time.
